Utilizing “Nat” Sound Within Your Video Content

You may or may not be familiar with the term nat sound. Nat is short for natural and is the audio portion that accompanies your video clip. This audio plays a role in supporting the background of the piece. But more importantly, it’s a powerful tool that can be used to drive home the key moments of your story.

Different examples of nat sound include ambient noise like birds chirping, a baby crying, traffic, a crowd reaction, or a sizzling grill. All of these sounds can be used to enhance the experience of the viewer by placing them throughout the video as pauses or breaks. Working these natural sound pops seamlessly into the piece is the goal. They shouldn’t take away from the flow, but rather work in harmony with the rest of the video.

It’s up to you on how to use this potentially powerful tactic to reinforce your story. Spiracle Media Creative Video Specialist AJ Chodora weaves nat sound into this short demonstration.
